About

Leona R. Wisoker started out as a writer when she was eight. Her parents made the deadly mistake of praising her work, and friends and family alike have had to wade through piles of her writing ever since. This is, thankfully, not as tedious a task as it used to be (or so she is assured).

Her science-fantasy series, Children of the Desert, was initially published though Mercury Retrograde Press; in January of 2014, MRx ceased operations as a traditional publisher. Fortunately, the series was picked up in late 2014 by ReAnimus Press and is once more widely available.

Back-stock (MRx) print copies of Secrets of the Sands (sold out), Guardians of the Desert, Bells of the Kingdom, and Fires of the Desert are once more being sold through The Scribbling Lion. (There was a brief hiatus while we took a step back to think about what we wanted to be.) Book five, Servants of the Sands, launched in January 2018, alongside its companion novella, Salt City. UPDATE as of 4/2020: Servants of the Sands has been reissued as two (print) books, with additional content. EBook remains one volume even with additional content.

(IF YOU BOUGHT THE FIRST VERSION, WITH THE SMALL PRINT, AND WERE UNABLE TO READ IT, PLEASE CONTACT LEONA IMMEDIATELY. She will get you a replacement.)

Leona writes, reviews*, and edits at whim. Her short fiction has been published by Anotherealm, AlienskinGalactic Creatures (anthology), Sha’Daa: Pawns (anthology), Sha’Daa: Inked (anthology), The Society For The Preservation of CJ Henderson (anthology), Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine, Futures: Fire to Fly Magazine, and more. She currently has three novellas, Fallen City, Salt City, and A Small Price To Pay, out through The Scribbling Lion.

At the moment, she is most often on Twitter Instagram avoiding social media buried in too many projects to count.  She hopes to clear her desk enough to rejoin the civilized world before 2017 2018 when the world becomes sane again. Social media and this website are updated in the rare moments between the completion of one ambitious project and the beginning of the next.

Leona lives in Sandston, Virginia, with an extraordinarily patient husband and yet another goofy dog.**

Leona NEVER accepts or allows compensation to bias her reviews or commentary one way or the other.

** A new dog. His name is Whiskey, because he’s a licker. Anyone asking “What happened to Leo, the big goofy wolfhound?” – we lost him in early 2015. A memorial page is here. Leo’s Shadow, our goofy lab-beagle, followed his big brother over the rainbow bridge in March 2018. He did a great job of amusing and protecting us for three long lonely years; now the two buddies are back together, romping through eternal fields and, I’ve no doubt at all, peeing on everything in sight.

Ridiculous upside down dog.
